McCOOK,Nebraska -- Carney L. "Tom" Baker, age 71, of McCook, passed away at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney on Dec. 3, 2012.

He was born on May 14, 1941, in Dayton, Ohio to Carney L. and Hilda (Casey) Baker. Tom graduated from high school and attended college for a couple of years. He enlisted in the US Navy serving three tours of duty in Viet Nam, retiring after 22 years of service.

Tom worked construction, remodeling La Quinta Inns of America through out the southern states. Tom married Violette Sines May 14, 1988, in Bay City, Texas. He was previously married and to that union three children were born: Denise, Alisha and Carney Jr. The couple lived in Aurora, Colorado, until moving to McCook, Nebraska, where Tom opened his own general construction company.

Tom enjoyed wood working making cradles and rockers for his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed automotive mechanicals. Other hobbies included playing pool and chess.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ron; infant daughter, Hilda and a sister, Victoria.

Tom is survived by his wife, Violette Sines Baker of McCook, four sons, Mike Wooley and wife, Nancy of Casper, Wyoming; Norman Bjork and wife, Maggie of Commerce City, Colorado; Beaux Sines and wife, Fran of McCook; Casey Baker of McCook; four daughters, Ann Hall and husband, Chris of Casper, Wyoming, Lynne Wooley of Lakewood, Colorado; Angie Hershberger and husband, Brad of McCook; Bonnie Padilla and husband, Rex of Westminster, Colorado; 26 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Larry Baker and wife, Beverly of Atlanta, Georgia; Charles Baker and wife, Mary of Dallas, Texas, and a sister, Angel.

A Celebration of life will be on Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel with Dr. Jason Blomstedt presiding. Burial will be at sea at a later date. Naval Honors will be presented at the funeral chapel.
