Prairie Land Food is a non-profit organization that offers all families a variety of fresh, healthy food at a minimal cost. Its goal is to help families reduce their food expenses, while encouraging them to give back to their communities through a few hours of volunteer service. The volunteer service could be for an organization, church, school, or even just helping a neighbor or visiting an elderly or homebound person.

The basic Prairie Pak includes five meat items along with six types of fresh fruits or vegetables, plus a cherry pie. The meat items can be purchased separately, as can the fruit/veggie package.

Specials are also available each month. December specials are designed to help with holiday entertaining. They include a spiral sliced holiday ham, a Christmas meat and cheese box, a box of 4 one-pound T-bone steaks, and two 6-pound roaster boneless chickens.

There is no limit to the number of items purchased. Orders can be placed at a local site using cash, check, or EBT/food stamps. Online orders at june@prairielandfood.com can be paid for with credit card, debit card, bank draft, or food stamps. This is a secure website.

The deadline for ordering is Tuesday, December 4. Food will be available for pickup at the McCook YMCA on Saturday, December 15, from 6:30 to 8:00 a.m.
