Lewis E. 'Gene' Abbott

AURORA, Colorado -- Gene Abbott, 62, died Friday (Nov. 16, 2012), in Aurora, Colorado, after a long battle with carcinoid cancer.

He was born Aug. 25, 1950, to Thelma J. Zimmerman and Delbert Abbott in McCook, Nebraska.

He attended school in McCook, Nebraska. Following high school he enlisted in the army and served his country from 1969-1972. After serving his country he moved to Denver, Colorado, where on April 7, 1973, he married Julie Houghton.

He was a member of the Colorado FCRV Camping club since 1979. (Sundowner Group). He also was an active member of the Colorado Patriot Guard and played Santa Claus for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thelma J. Zimmerman and Delbert Abbott.

Survivors include his wife Julie, of Aurora Colorado; his sister, Nancy Zimmerman of Scottsdale Arizona; two brothers, Charles Campbell of Phoenix, Arizona, and Dale Abbott of Gibbon, Nebraska; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services are Wednesday, Nov. 28, 10 a.m. at the Advantage Aurora Chase Chapel, 1095 Havana Street, Aurora Co 80010. Internment at 2 p.m. at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Staging area A.

Memorials are suggested to Carcinoid Cancer Foundation, NCCE 3223 Muskrat Creek Dr., Fort Collins, CO 80528. Or to the local Dumb Friends League.
