E. Vaughneta Schlager

McCOOK, Nebraska -- Vaughneta Schlager died Nov. 8, 2012, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook, Nebraska, at the age of 94.

She was born March 29, 1918, at Palisade, Nebraska, the daughter of the late Merle and Ellen (Sailors) Follett. She attended Beverly School until 10th grade and graduated from Palisade, Nebraska in 1936.

On June 21, 1936, Vaughneta married Jake Schlager at St. John's Lutheran Church in Culberston, Nebraska. She was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Culbertson on Dec. 11, 1936. They lived on a farm seven miles north of Culbertson from 1940 to 1973 and raised their family there. They retired and moved to McCook.

As a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Culbertson, she was very involved in various activities which included being a member of the Ladies Aid Society. Vaughneta also participated in various clubs. She deeply loved her family and all her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Jake, her husband of 50 years, and one great-grandchild, Rachel Maria Hanes.

Vaughneta is survived by three daughters: Beverly Rathe and husband, Arlan, of Culberston, Nebraska; Sandra Hanes and husband, DeWayne, of Broken Bow, Nebraska; Penny Schneider and husband, Ed, of Brighton, Colorado, and one son, Richard Schlager and wife, Judy, of McCook, Nebraska. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Visitation is Saturday, Nov. 10, from noon until 7 p.m. at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook. The family will greet friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov.11, at the funeral chapel.

Services will be at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Culbertson at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 12,2012. Interment is at the Culbertson Cemetery.

Memorials may be given in her name.
