ALMA, Nebraska -- Lois Ann (Boys) Hitt, 74, died Saturday (Nov. 3, 2012), at the Harlan County Health Systems Hospital in Alma.
She was born to Vaughn Boys and Emily (Stephens) Boys on May 17, 1938, at Wilmington, Delaware.
She grew up in Delaware where she had attended school at Wilmington and graduated from high school in 1957. After high school she worked as a telephone operator in Delaware.
She married John Croner Hitt on Oct. 11, 1959, at Elkton, Maryland. They moved to McCook in 1973, where she continued working as a telephone operator until 1980. She then worked as a bookkeeper with C and K Distributors. In 2004, they moved Leesburg, Florida. She entered the Good Samaritan Society Home, Colonial Villa in Alma in April 2012.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church at McCook and a member of the Congregational Church at Mount Dora, Florida. She was also a member of the Chapter 86 of the Order of the Eastern Star at McCook.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2012, her father, Vaughn; her step-father, Marion "Mike" Shanks; her mother Emily; and one brother, Jack Boys, in 1992.
Survivors include daughters, Karen Allen of Culbertson, Nebraska and Kelly Regier and her husband, Bryan of Bingham, Nebraska; one son, John Kevin Hitt and his wife, Barbara of Long Island, Kansas; a sister-in-law, Joane Boys-Morowski of Tarpon Springs, Florida; a brother, Warren Shanks and his wife, Karen of Newark, Delaware; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
Lois was directly cremated after death and memorial services and inurnment will be in McCook, Nebraska, at a later date.
Banta-Torrey Funeral Home in Alma is in charge of arrangements.
