Betty L. Vlasin

HAYES CENTER, Nebraska -- Betty LaVerne (Daniel) Vlasin passed away on Oct. 13, 2012, at the El Dorado Manor in Trenton, Nebraska. She was 82 years old.

Betty was born to Ernest and Marjorie Daniel on Oct. 27, 1929, in Hayes County on her parent's homestead north of Hamlet, Nebraska. Betty attended school in Wauneta, Nebraska and in 1977, Betty graduated from Hayes Center High School with her high school diploma.

On Sept. 25, 1947, she was united in marriage to George J. Vlasin at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McCook. She was a devoted wife at George's side for 61 years. Through this union three children were born. They made their home on a farm southeast of Hayes Center their entire life, where they farmed and raised cattle. In 1989, they retired and moved to Hayes Center. Betty loved to visit and spend time with her family. She was an expert in sewing, cooking and crafting. Betty loved children and her smile and laugh was wonderful. In 2007, she gained new friends at the El Dorado Manor in Trenton.

Betty was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Altar Society, and Hayes Center American Legion Auxiliary. Among her favorite things to do were listening to polka and gospel music, reading, sewing and visiting with friends and family. She worked hard her entire life with the farm and with her children.

Preceding her in death were her husband, George, on Oct. 20, 2008; her parents, Ernest and Marjorie Daniel; two sisters, Nadine and Pamela, brothers and sisters-in- law, Velma and Maurice Schuman, Agnes and Roy Kurth, Anton Lankas, Joseph Vlasin, Ladik and Edward Vlasin; and two nephews, David and Regan Vlasin.

Survivors include three children: Mark and wife, Kim Vlasin of McCook, Marlene and husband, Lowell Bedore of Culbertson, Monte and wife, Dianne Vlasin of Neosho, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Constance Hardenbrook, Ketra and Cali Vlasin, Chelsea (Carlos) Machuca, Cari Gigax, Shalee (Wes) Franklin, Kayln and Lathan Vlasin ; and six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Rawland and wife, Dixie Daniel of Bosier City, Lousiana, and Leroy Daniel; two sisters-in-law, Gertrude Lankas of Atwood, Kansas and Doris Vlasin of Hayes Center; many nieces and nephews and a host of special friends.

Memorials may be given in her name.

Visitation will be Monday, Oc. 15, 2012, from 1-6 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home. Friends may send condolences to the family at www.carpenterbreland.com

The rosary will be recited Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, 7 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Trenton with Father Lothar Gilde as Celebrant. Burial will follow at the Hayes Center Cemetery.
