DANBURY, Nebraska --Edith B. Hanchera - Clary, age 99, of Danbury, passed away Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook, Nebraska.
Edith was born Dec. 13, 1912, in Danbury to parents Clarence and Rose (Minniear) Axtell. She was one of four children. Edith attended school in Danbury.
Edith married husband Stephen "Bill" Hanchera on Sept. 1, 1931, in Danbury. To this union, one son was born. The family made their home on the farm near Danbury. Stephen passed away in September 1980.
Following the death of her first husband, Edith remarried Bert Clary, in December 1981. The couple enjoyed traveling together, spending each winter in Yuma, Arizona. He passed away in July 1999.
Edith was a member of Danbury Presbyterian Church where she enjoyed attending Ladies Tea. She loved shuffleboard, playing cards and Saturday night dances. She was a wonderful cook and will always be remembered for her potato salad, fried chicken and chocolate cake.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; grandson, Robert "Bob" Hanchera; two sisters, Christine Moore and Thelma Hindman; and one brother, Floyd Axtell.
Edith is survived by her son, DeWayne and wife, LaVonne Hanchera of Danbury; three grandsons, Steven and wife, Kathy Hanchera of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Daniel and wife, Mary Hanchera of Houston, Texas, and Scott and wife, Kris Hanchera of Danbury; ten great-grandchildren, Marissa and husband, Joshua Keldgord, Andrea, Joshua, Gabrielle, Rachel, Michael, Ryan, Danielle Hanchera, Lindsay and husband, Lee McConville, and Alex Hanchera. Also surviving are two great-great-granddaughters, Elizabeth and Emma McConville, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 27 at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook from 1 to 8 p.m.
A funeral service will be on Friday, Sept. 28 at 10:30 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook with Pastor Tom Albertson officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Danbury Marion Cemetery at Danbury.
