MARCO ISLAND, Florida -- Dixie Dee Martin, age 71, of Marco Island, Florida, formerly of Roselle, Illinois, passed away Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, in Vitas Innovative Hospice Care in Naples, Florida.

She was born on Jan. 8, 1941, in McCook, Nebraska, the daughter of Freda May and the late C. Vincent Leffler. Freda just turned 100 years on Aug.11, 2012, and Dixie was there to help her celebrate.

She grew up in Hayes Center, Nebraska, and attended school there before attending Doane College in Crete, Nebraska. She was a member of Hayes Center Congregational Church and a member of Omega Psi Theta sorority at Doane College. She was also a member of Roselle Women's Club and the Roselle Methodist Church

While at Doane, she met her future husband, Jon R. Martin, and they were married in Hayes Center on June 11, 1960, and celebrated 52 years of marriage.

In October of 1965 Dixie and Jon purchased a funeral home in Roselle, which became known as the Martin Funeral Home, Ltd. which they owned for 29 years before retiring and moving to Shipp's Landing on Marco Island full time in 1994.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her son, Kip V. (Gwen) Martin of Ft. Myers, Florida and her daughter, Mitzi J. (Scott) Sanders of Bokeelia, Florida; sister, Jonel (Gary) Musgrave; brother-in-law, Roger (Patricia) Martin; grandchildren, Blake and Samantha Sanders, Brittani Sydney, and Elysia Martin and Clarissa, Alexis, and Cassandra Mobley and several nephews and nieces.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 350 Barfield Drive, Marco Island, Florida. 34145
