Irene Hopkins

LOVELAND, Colorado -- Irene Hopkins died Aug. 13 2012, at the McKee Medical Center in Loveland, Colorado.

She was born Sept. 23, 1922, on the family farm, north of Beardsley, Kansas, to Roy and Sophie Kletchka McKain.

As a child she attended Prairie View School near her home. On Oct. 27, 1952, she married Irvin Hopkins in McCook, Nebraska. After marriage they lived on a farm just north of Palisade, Nebraska. After the death of his father, Irvin took over managing the family elevator. They moved to Palisade.

She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and V.F.W Auxiliary. In 1988, after the sale of the elevator, they moved to Loveland, where they lived the remainder of their lives.

After the death of Irvin in 2003, Irene occupied her time with her house and treasured yard. She also enjoyed being "grandma" Irene to the neighbor's grandchildren.

She was a life-long Catholic and belonged to St. John Catholic Church in Loveland.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Irvin; brothers, Ralph, Oscar and Lewis McKain and sister, Gertrude Antholz.

She is survived by son, Arnold and wife, Pam and grandson, Dakota, of Brea, California and sister, Blanche and husband, Gene Koons of rural Atwood, Kansas; nieces, nephews and friends.

She will be greatly missed.

Memorial services and inurnment were held Aug. 15, 2012, at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Fort Collins, Colorado.
