ATWOOD, Kansas -- Roma Lee Mellick Blau died Friday (Aug. 24, 2012), at Via Christi Village in Hays.

She was born Feb. 12, 1931, to Del and Addie (Winslow) Porter at Beardsley, Kansas.She graduated from Atwood Community High School in 1949. She married Lyle Dean Mellick Oct. 2, 1949. They had three children, Donald Dean, Ronald Gene and Melody Ann.

She was district secretary for the Rawlins County Soil Conservation District for 24 years.

Lyle Dean passed away May 12, 1993, at the age of 65 years. She married Hale Blau of Brewster, Kansas on Feb. 14, 1998. Hale passed away June 27, 2000.

She lived in Atwood for 58 years. In 2009, she moved to Hays and lived at Via-Christi Health Care Center until her death.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Lyle Dean Mellick and Hale Blau; son, Donald; great-grandson, Harley Antholz; sister, Jennie and a brother, Russell Porter.

She is survived by her son Ron Mellick and wife, Mary of Hays; daughter, Melody Antholz and husband, Eric of Riverton, Nebraska; three sisters, twin sister, Norma Dee Holthus of Atwood, Kansas, Idella Schriner of Dodge City, Kansas and Connie Gordon of Houston, Texas; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services were Monday, Aug. 27 at the United Methodist Church, Atwood; burial was at Atwood Fairview Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Via Christi Residents Benefit and the Atwood United Methodist Church Chancel Choir.
