McCOOK, Nebraska -- Life-long resident of McCook, Nebraska, Elaine Lois (McClure) Keene, age 91, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2012 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.
Elaine was born April 22, 1921, to parents William and Jessie (Stewart) McClure in the family's home in McCook. She attended school in McCook, graduating from McCook High School in 1939.
On December 12, 1941, Elaine married husband L. LaMoine Keene at the Baptist Church in McCook. To this union two children were born, daughter, Dian and son, Steve. The family made their home in McCook where Elaine enjoyed raising her children and being a homemaker.
Elaine was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook. She was also a past member of the Chapter FA PEO and Eastern Star, Past President and charter member of the McCook Art Guild and China Painter's Guild, and a Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader. She enjoyed golfing, dancing and playing bridge. Elaine was known for her creative and artistic talents in watercolor and china painting.
Elaine was preceded in death by her father, William McClure; mother, Jessie Brown; step-father, Hugh Brown; and sister, Wilma Bayless.
Elaine is survived by her husband of 70 ½ years, LaMoine Keene of McCook, daughter, Dian (Chuck) Trail of McCook; son, Steve (Patty) Keene of McCook; granddaughter, Cynthia (Mark) Kemling of Omaha, Nebraska; grandson, Dr. Kynan (Nancy) Trail of Yankton, South Dakota; step-grandchildren, Felipe Tagle DDS, Agustin Tagle and Camila Tagle, all of Santiago, Chile; sister-in-law, LaVaughn Zink of Denver, Colorado; nieces, Mary (Dave) Croskrey of Eugene, Oregon and Linda Wall of Strasburg, Colorado; nephew, Lynn Zink of Salina, Kansas; cousins, Rachel (Sam) Allen Bayless of Lubbock, Texas and Jerry (Gwen) Allen of Salt Lake City, Utah; as well as four great-grandchildren, Manuel Cook of Belleview, Nebraska and Michaela, Jenna and Ryan Trail of Yankton.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 31, 2012, from 1 to 8 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug.1, 2012, at the Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook with Pastor Lance Clay officiating.
The family has chosen cremation to follow the funeral service. Burial of cremains will take place at a later date.
Memorial contributions are suggested to either the Memorial United Methodist Church or Hillcrest Nursing Home.
