ELWOOD Nebraska -- Ruth Eileen Hanson, 92, died Wednesday (July 18, 2012), at her home in Elwood. She was born on Nov. 25, 1919, in Eustis, Nebraska to Sam and Rebecca (Hermann) Daiss.
She graduated from Eustis High School in 1937. In 1940, she moved to Buhl, Idaho to be near family. On June 7, 1941, she married Lawrence Hanson in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Buhl, Idaho.
Sheworked at Western Union as a money loan clerk for two years. After her husband's discharge from the military in 1945, they moved back to Elwood where they purchased a farm implement dealership. Operating as Hanson Implement, she was the bookkeeper for 17 years. She would also work for the Gosper County ASCS office for 19 years and as secretary for the Elwood High School for 12 years.
She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and St. John's Altar Society of Smithfield, Nebraska, the Alexis Club, and a 64-year member of American Legion Auxiliary where she was the historian for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence; sisters, Lurlie Schroeder Jones and Norma Jean Hicks; and sister-in-law, Mayme Hanson.
Surviviors include her sons, Dennis and Malika Hanson of Boulder City, Nevada, Doug and Jackie Hanson of Hickman, Nebraska; brother, Al and wife, Gladie Daiss; sister, Ethel DeWalt of Twin Falls, Idaho; brothers-in-law, Don and wife, Phyllis Hanson of Bertrand, Nebraska and Robert Hanson of Lexington, Nebraska; aunt, Gertie Fox of Elwood, Nebraska; two granddaughters, five great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.
Rosary will be Saturday, July 21, 9:30 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church at Smithfield, Nebraska, followed by funeral mass at 11 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church at Smithfield with the Rev.Thomas Lux, officiating. Burial will be at the Elwood Cemetery in Elwood.
Viewing and visitation with family present will be Friday, July 20, 2012, from 5 -8 p.m. at Elwood Funeral Home in Elwood and prior to the service at the church.
