CAMBRIDGE, Nebraska -- Leroy Hyke, 77, died July 12, 2012, at Mary Lanning Hospital.

He was born at home in Hendley, Nebraska on Dec. 13, 1934 to Gilbert "Bud" and Adith Mae (Dillin) Hyke. He attended school in Hendley.

He served in the United States Army from 1958 and later served in the Army Reserve until1964. He was trained to be a track vehicle and auto mechanic.

He married Barbara L. Kasson on Dec. 1. 1962 and she preceded him in death Feb 16, 1975.

He farmed and worked as a mechanic. He was also an accomplished boat mechanic. He spent summers working for Hill Marine in Hastings and at Lake Lovewell in Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Barb.

He is survived by his daughter, Christy Vap of Cambridge, Nebraska; son, Timothy and wife, Darlene Hyke of Huron, South Dakota; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A Gathering of friends and family was Sunday, July 15, 2012, at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge.
