Vola Georgene (Loop) Carter

TRENTON, Nebraska -- Vola Georgene (Loop) Carter, age 93, passed away July 7, 2012, at El Dorado Manor in Trenton, Nebraska.

Vola was born July 24, 1918, seven miles northwest of Stratton, Ne to George Almon and Melissa Manerva (Bess) Crawford, Loop. She lived on this place until her marriage. Vola went to grade school at District 77 about 1 ½ miles southwest of her home. In 1933 she entered the ninth grade at Stratton High School and completed four years in 1937.

On Feb. 3, 1941, she married Lyle Edward Carter in Trenton, Nebraska.

She was a stay-at-home mother while her children were at home. She went to work at TRW in Quality Control Department, retiring in 1984. She enjoyed traveling and looking up family history. Vola was a Charter member of the Nebraska State Genealogical Society for more than 25 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Bess Loop; her husband, Lyle Carter on Jan. 13, 2000; son, Kenneth Edward "Butchie" Carter December 1952; and a sister; Beryl Harper.

Survivors include a daughter, Lucille Townsend and husband, Gary of Danbury, Nebraska, their three sons: Trent Townsend and wife, Jessica of Oberlin, Kansas, Brent Townsend and wife, Michelle, their children, Alexandria, Isabella and Elizabeth, and Krent Townsend of Danbury, Nebraska and his son, Kalen Townsend of Oberlin, Kansas; a son, Harold Wayne Carter and wife, Anne of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, their two children, Caris Cummings and husband, Josh of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Nic Carter and wife, Aimee and their three sons, Aaron, Christopher and Jordan Carter of Central City, Iowa; one sister, Bonnie Hager of Imperial, Nebraska; one brother, Bill Loop of McCook; numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Memorials may be given in her name.

Visitation will be Wednesday, from 1-8 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be Thursday, at 10 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating. Burial will be in the Trenton Cemetery.
