Donald Harlan Hall

McCOOK, Nebraska -- Donald Harlan Hall, age 63, of McCook, passed away June 16, 2012, at the Community Hospital in McCook. He was born in Frontier County on July 9, 1948 to Floyd and Violet (Calkins) Hall. He attended Washington Country School through the 5th grade then went to Red Willow Public Schools until he graduated from high school in 1966.

In September of 1966, he went to UNSTA in Curtis, Nebraska. He graduated with a degree in drafting and surveying in May of 1968. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and went to basic training in Fort Lewis, Washington. He served on the DMZ in South Korea and returned home in January 1970. He married Janine Fritz on May 31, 1970, and two children were born to this union, Jason Brent Hall and Justin Michael Hall.

He earned a degree in Nursing Home Administration in 1993. He served as hospital and nursing home administrator at Bassett, Nebraska, in 1995, and at El Dorado Manor in Trenton, Nebraska and Stromburg, Nebraska, in 2005.

During Don's career, he was an accountant and a hospital and nursing home administrator. He was the curator of the Norris Home in McCook. Don earned a business administration bachelor's degree from Kearney State College. Later in his career, he completed a Master's Degree in business administration from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. His work history has taken Don and his family to several towns and cities in Nebraska. He and Janine retired to McCook in July 2007 and were members of Peace Lutheran Church, he served on the ESU Board and worked at the food pantry.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Fern (Hall) Moore.

He is survived by his wife, Janine and his two sons, Jason of Lincoln, and Justin (Heather) of Minden, and his grandchildren, Emma Mae and Calab Hall; sisters, Betty (Steve) Hardre of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Barb (Gayle) Ruggles of McCook, Nebraska, Helen (Dean) Berndt of Danbury, Nebraska and one brother, Bernard and Sue Hall of Culbertson.

Memorials are suggested to El Dorado Manor in Trenton.

Visitation will be Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Herrmann Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 21, 2012, at 10 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook, with Pastor Tom Albertson officiating. Burial will be at the Indianola City Cemetery with military honors graveside.
