Robert 'Bob' Joseph Brown
NORTH PLATTE, Nebraska -- Robert "Bob" Joseph Brown, 70, resident of North Platte and formerly of Curtis, died May 7, 2012, surrounded by family at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.
He was born on a farm near Stockville, Frontier County, Nebraska, to Kenneth and Leona Mann Brown. Second of three children, he graduated from NCTA in Curtis after attending school K-10 in Stockville.
He married Jennifer Burkey June 2, 1963. They made their home and raised their family in Curtis. In 1997, they relocated to North Platte, where Bob was employed by UPRR in the diesel shop, retiring in 2008. While in Curtis, Bob began working for Stan Phillips at the Chevrolet dealership and eventually formed Brown Brothers Auto Service, working for many years with his close brother, Harold.
He was a member of the Curtis VFD for more than 30 years during which he served as Fire Chief for 25 years, including Nebraska Fire Chief's Association President from 95-96.
He was preceded in death by parents, Kenneth and Leona Brown; brother, Harold Brown and sister, Judy Moore.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jennifer; sons, Rodney and wife, Carrie of North Platte, Curtiss and wife, Amy of Round Rock, Texas, Regan of North Platte; daughter, Mindy Jo of Cozad, Nebraska and five grandchildren.
Funeral services are Friday, May 11, at 10:30 a.m. at Curtis United Methodist Church, followed by a grave side service at the Arbor Cemetery in Stockville, Nebraska. Lunch will be provided by the Curtis United Methodist Women.
Visitation is at Blase-Wetzel-Strauser Chapel in Curtis today until 8 p.m., with family present from 5-8 p.m.
