Opal E. Campbell

FREMONT, Nebraska -- Opal E. Campbell, 87 years, of Fremont, died Monday, May 7, 2012, at her home in Fremont.

She was born March 25, 1925, on a farm near Holdrege, Nebraska, to Walter and Daisy (Bell) Verbeck. She moved to Maywood, Nebraska, at age 11. She graduated from Maywood High School in 1944. Opal married Carl W. Campbell on March 20, 1945, in McCook, Nebraska. She moved to Kearney in 1968 and then to Fremont in 1990. She worked as a beautician for several years in Maywood and was a line worker at the West Company in Kearney for 10 years.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cedar Bluffs and a former member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont.

Survivors include her husband, Carl; son, William "Bill" and wife, JoAnn Campbell of Fremont; daughter, Wanda Sydow of Kingwood, Texas; four sisters, Darlene Carter of North Platte, Nebraska, Rachel and husband, Jim Triplett of North Platte, Hazel and husband, Bob Thayer of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Mary Roethemeyer of North Platte; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial mass will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 14 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church Chapel in Fremont. The Rev. Matthew Vandewalle will officiate. There is no visitation. Burial will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska. Memorials may be directed to the family.
