Local store honored at national convention

McCOOK, Nebraska -- The McCook Game On store was awarded a Power Retailing Award for Outstanding Marketing during the March Game Manufacturer's Association Trade Show in Las Vegas.

"It was fantastic to be honored with this award," said owner Cody Dame.

Each year the Game Manufacturer's Association takes nominations for up to four different categories of excellence in hobby game retailing. The categories include store design, organized play, marketing and overall operations. For the 2012 Power Retail Awards, Game On was nominated in each category.

"After nomination, we had to send in pictures and videos of our store for each category and an essay about how and why we do what we do. This allows the board members and volunteers from other stores to get to know our store when making a decision on who should win," co-owner Tanner Lytle stated.

Dame and Lytle made the annual trip to the trade show to see the latest and greatest in the hobby game industry while attending seminars and meeting owners from stores all over the country. They were honored with the award during a dinner presentation.

"This July will be our fifth anniversary of being in business and it's amazing to be recognized by our peers in the industry. It feels like everything we've been doing has been in the right direction," Dame said.

A store can only win each category once and is then no longer eligible to win in that category. Dame and Lytle have set their sights on winning another category next year.
