BENKELMAN,Nebaska -- Wayne Keith Sanders, 87, of Bird City, Kansas, died Sunday (April 29, 2012), at the Dundy County Hospital in Benkelman, Nebraska.

He was born Dec. 14, 1924, in Utica, Kansas. He was a school superintendent.

Survivors include his wife, Bertha (Nemecek) Sanders of Bird City; daughters, Pam Johnson of Bird City, Victoria Shahan of Portland, Oregon and Marcia Raichart of Benkelman, Nebraska; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services are Saturday, May 5, 10:30 at the Immanuel United Methodist Church in Bird City. Burial will follow at Bird City Cemetery. Visitation is Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., at the Knodel Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to to the church or to Cheyenne County EMTs.
