WAUNETA, Nebraska -- Cody Dean Fanning was born June 30, 1991, to Craig and Jo (McCallum) Fanning in Imperial, Nebraska. Cody grew up on the family farm north of Wauneta and attended Wauneta-Palisade High School, graduating in 2009. After graduation he went on to further his education at Doane College, where he was currently in his junior year.
Cody was a great help to his parents and worked on the family farm. He had a love for football and was a member of the Wauneta-Palisade Bronco Varsity football team. He then went on to earn a varsity position for the Doane College Tigers. In addition to football, Cody enjoyed dirt bike riding and hanging out with his friends.
Cody passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at Bryan LGH Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was 20 years of age.
Survivors include his parents, Craig and Jo Fanning of Wauneta; brother and sister, Bo and Abbie Fanning, at home in Wauneta; True Love, Bethany Riener of Palisade, Nebraska; grandparents, Clint and Betty McCallum of Wauneta, Dorothea Fanning of Wauneta; aunts and uncles, DeWayne and Patti Fanning of Wauneta, Vicki and Bill Baker of Palisade, Kelly and Dee McCallum of Wauneta, Karla and Greg Herley of O'Neil, Nebraska, and Shelly and David Meyer of Hastings, Nebraska.
Cody was preceded in death by his grandfather, Frank Fanning, brother, Dustin Fanning, and cousins, Stephanie Fanning and Danny Joe Jussel.
Funeral services for Cody Fanning will be held Tuesday morning, May 1, 2012, 10:30 a.m.. (MT) at the Wauneta-Palisade High School Gymnasium in Wauneta, Nebraska, with Father Val Bartek officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Wauneta.
Visitation will be held Monday afternoon, April 30, 2012, 2 - 6 p.m. (MT) at the funeral home in Wauneta.
A rosary will be recited Monday evening, April 30, 2012, 7 p.m. (MT) at St. John's Catholic Church, Wauneta, with Father Val Bartek officiating.
A memorial has been established to the Doane College Athletic Fund in care of the football program.
