Herman H. Hinkle

Jan. 19, 1932 - April 24, 2012

LINCOLN, Nebraska -- Herman H. Hinkle, age 80, went to heaven April 24, 2012, in Lincoln.

He was born in Almeria, Nebraska, on Jan. 19, 1932, to the Rev. William and Mary Hinkle. He attended Cozad High School and received Bachelors and Masters degrees from Kearney State College. He served in the U.S. Military from 1953-54, in Germany.

He married Shirley Stinehagen in 1953. Herman taught and coached in Farnam, Gothenburg, (where his basketball team were State Champs in 1962) and at McCook Junior College.

He was a State Farm insurance agent in McCook. He moved to Lincoln in 1975, where he was an insurance agent and financial planner for Ameriprise. Herm was an active member of Fellowship Community Church, Chairman of the Nebraska Churches of God, and was on the Foundation board of the People's City Mission. He was a man of God and of integrity who served his neighbors, loved his family, and made us all laugh.

He is survived by his wife Shirley; siblings, Mary Ann Grater and husband, Gene, of Alabama; Glenn Hinkle of Missouri; Nelson Hinkle and wife, Linda, of Kentucky; Bill Hinkle and wife, Lin, of New Mexico; children, Pam Williams, Amy Hinkle, both of Lincoln, Todd Hinkle and wife, Peggy, of Omaha; grandchildren, Tira Newell and husband, Jason, Tanner Hinkle, Tabby Hinkle of Omaha, Adam Williams, Lia Tiller and husband, John, Dana Williams, Sinjhen Campbell of Lincoln; and three great-grandchildren, Evie and Daphne Newell and Atticus Tiller.

Memorial service is Saturday, April 28, 2 p.m. at the Fellowship Community Church, 8601 Holdrege, with Pastor George Cook officiating. No visitation.

Memorials may be given to the family for his local church, People's City Mission and Tabitha Hospice.
