KEARNEY, Nebraska -- Arlene R. Jones, of Kearney, age 93, died Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Mt. Carmel Home in Kearney.
Funeral services will be Saturday, April 21, 2012, at 9:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church with Rev. Lew Champ officiating. Burial will follow at Kearney Cemetery. Visitation is today until 7 p.m. at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney, and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Arlene was born on June 21, 1918 in Alliance, Nebraska, to John and Rose (Carrell) Havlik. She graduated from Benkelman High School with the class of 1937, and then attended Kearney State Teachers College. She married William R. Jones on August 21, 1938 in Haigler, Nebraska. Arlene taught in a number of rural schools in Dundy and Red Willow counties and in the Pleasanton Public Schools until she retired. She was member of First Christian Church in Kearney, the Christian Women's Fellowship, Kearney Area Retired Teachers Association, Ft. Kearny Genealogy Society and the Fort Kearny Rock Club.
Surviving relatives include sons, Stanley and Dannien Jones, of Kearney, Dean and Dianne Jones, of Kearney, sister, Jennette Keeney, of Battle Ground, Washington, grandchildren, Carman and John Paul, of Kearney, Brady and Angela Jones, of Omaha, Dawnette Peppler and husband, Don Sickels, of Arlington, Texas, Melanie and Mike McClain, of Wichita, Kansas; great-grandchildren, Brooks and Quinn Paul Bailey and Torrie Jones, Megan, Skylar, Karsyn and Pyper Sickels, Ella and Gracyn McClain
Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, William; sister, Kathleen Early and great-grandson, Carter Paul.
