PBL raising funds with McCook college's history
In an effort to come up with a fresh new idea for a fund-raiser for McCook Community College's Phi Beta Lambda group, leaders "looked within" and came up with a unique idea which not only showcases student talent but also recognizes the history of Nebraska's first two-year college.
On sale now is the MCC blanket created and designed by Vernonica Waddell, a Graphic Design student and member of PBL.
"This was an exciting project for the graphic design students to work on because the resulting product is so much different than many of the real world projects they do," Graphic Design Instructor Becky Meyers said. "Veronica put a tremendous amount of effort into the photo montage by using a variety of effects and blending modes, it is a fantastic design."
This month PBL members on campus are selling showcase blankets which depict MCC's historic buildings and their construction date including: McMillen Hall 1935, True Hall, 1939, Brooks Hall 1960, Student Union 1965, Tipton Hall, 1967, Wrightstone Fine Arts Building in 1969, von Riesen Library and Barnett Hall in 1972, Walsh-Brady Hall in 1987 and the new Events Center, 2012.
"All of the students did a great job with their designs and it gave them an opportunity to really dig into their Photoshop skills. I know that PBL had a difficult time choosing which design to use. I was very proud of all of their efforts," Meyers said.
According to co-advisor Janet Weber, this idea was the brain child of co-advisor Lorrie Mowry.
Weber said the proceeds raised from the blankets will be used to assist PBL's many state award winners in helping cover expenses to attend the National Leadership Conference to be held June 23-28 in San Antonio, Texas.
The blankets sell for $45, and may be purchased by visiting with a PBL member. Members include: Nate Crick, William Doherty, Carlos Dominguez, Deidre Doyle, Amber Flint, Kacie Greenlee, Haley Harpham, Haley Hilker, Kimberly Kunkee, Kasha Messersmith, Jessica Midkiff , John Reeves, Trisha Rickel, Brisa Rodriguez, Charles Skilling, III, Mercedes Thomas, Veronica Waddell and Desiree Washum.
