OBERLIN, Kansas -- Luella Sloan, 83, died Sunday (April 1, 2012), at Oberlin.
She was born April 13, 1928, to Alvin and Lola (Scott) Gaines in Decatur County, Kansas.
She was raised on a farm near Dresden, Kansas, and graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1946.
She married Delbert Sloan Dec. 21, 1992, in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was a homemaker, seamtress and nurses aide. She was a member of United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Lola Gaines; husband, Dennis Sloan; former husband, James Dean Godfrey; an infant child; three brothers, Dale, Darrel and Ross Gaines; grandson, Tristan Wessel and stepson-in-law, Mike McCarthy.
Survivors include her son, Marvin and wife, Charlotte Godfrey of Whitewater, Kansas; two stepsons, Steve and wife, Carol Sloan of Lawrence, Kansas and John and wife, Suzanne Sloan of Wichita, Kansas; daughter, Lola and husband, George Wessel of Selden, Kansas; step-daughter, Susan McCarthy of Gordon, Nebraska; brother, Jim and wife Beverly Gaines of Oberlin; sister-in-law, Alice Gaines of Oberlin; five grandchildren and seven step grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.
Services are Thursday, April 5 at 2 p.m. at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin with the Rev. Linda Willey officiating. Interment is at the Selden Cemetery in Selden.
Visitation is today until 8 p.m. at Pauls Funeral Home and after 8 a.m. on Thursday.
Memorials may be given in her name.
