Deadlines loom for two MCC scholarships
April deadlines loom for students considering applying for two MCC scholarships.
The deadline for the Davis/Chambers Scholarship is April 1 and the deadline for the Great Plains Human Resource Management Association scholarship is April 15.
The Davis/Chambers Scholarship recognizes academically promising students from diverse backgrounds who often find that the financial requirements of postsecondary education are a major obstacle. Applicants can be for students who will be a freshman in the fall of 2012 or returning students to Mid-Plains Community College.
To apply for the Davis/Chambers scholarship, first apply for admission. If you are not already a student, contact Mid-Plains Community College Admissions Office and complete the admissions process.
Upon successful admission, applicants must take a college placement test. The Admissions Office will advise applicants of the appropriate placement test, testing time and dates as well as fees involved. This testing will help identify present skill levels and aid applicants in selecting appropriate courses.
Applicants must also file a free application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The value of the Davis/Chambers Scholarship is based primarily on the family's ability to help meet college costs. The financial aid office must be able to determine financial need so if applicants have not already done so, they should contact the financial aid office and follow all procedures to apply for financial aid to include filing the 2012-13 FAFSA form, as additional resources may be available to students with financial need.
Applicants then need to complete the Davis/Chambers scholarship application, which can be picked up at local high schools or at a Mid-Plains Financial Aid office. Include written responses to the essay questions and all transcripts required.
Send this completed packet to the Mid-Plains Community College Financial Aid Office by April 1.
The Great Plains Human Resource Management Association scholarship will award $500 to apply toward tuition, books or other directly related expenses.
The recipient will be selected on the basis of the candidate's individual merit and commitment to a career in human resource management or business management. The applicant must be a current MPCC student who will be transferring to a four-year college or university to complete their bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resource Management or related field.
Applications for that scholarship can be obtained at the financial aid office at Mid-Plains Community College. In order to consider your application, the committee must receive the following items no later than April 15: A completed and signed GPHRMA scholarship application form; a copy from the school's catalog or an information sheet showing an estimate of expenses that will apply to your financial need; a written essay response to the "statement of interest" questions.
Submit completed application and supporting documents to: Community Hospital, Attn: Leanne Miller, GPHRMA President, P.O. Box 1328, McCook, NE 69001.
