McCOOK, Nebraska -- Leona Jean Miracle, age 85, died at her home in McCook on Saturday, March 24, 2012.
She was born in Cambridge on Sept. 3, 1926, to Floyd and LaVerna (Bogle) Kutz. Jean graduated from Cambridge High School in 1945.
Jean taught rural school for one year. On June 3, 1946, she was untied in marriage to Hubert Miracle in Cambridge. He preceded her in death in February of 1999. After the war, the couple lived in Ohio until 1948 when the moved back to Cambridge. Jean was employed by the Ben Franklin Store. In 1966, they moved to McCook. During this time, Jean worked for Sheldon and Wiemer's Market and TRW. She loved children and babysat for many McCook children. She was a care giver for the elderly also. Jean loved to sew and quilt. She made Barbie and Ken clothing for all the toys that were left at the McCook Toy Box for Christmas.
She was a member of the First United Church of Christ Congregational Church in Cambridge.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Hubert, brother-in-laws: Vernon Schauer and Eddie Miracle.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Gloria and husband, Dale Cotton of McCook; son, Russell and wife, Marty of Phoenix, Arizona; four grandchildren, Jeff and wife, Jessica; Scott and wife, Susan; Kathy; and Tara and husband, Dennis Rowles; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gary and wife, Barbara Kutz of Sisters, Oregon and Bob and wife Marla Kutz of Grand Island, Nebraska; sister, Phyllis Schauer of Lexington, Nebraska.
Memorial services will be announced for later in the week. Memorials may be left to the Congregational Church or any organization for children in Jean's name. Friends may leave on-line condolences at lockenour.com.
