Friday, March 23, 2012

McCOOK, Nebraska -- An opponent to the location where Red Willow County Commissioners plan to build a jail and law enforcement center will make another pitch for a new location Monday.

Dale Dueland, who has been among those opposed to building the $5 million facility on lots just north of the county courthouse, is on the agenda to provide follow-up information on a site on land for sale near the Work Ethic Camp on North U.S. Highway 83.

Dueland is slated to appear before Red Willow County Commissioners at 9:20 a.m.

At 9:45 p.m., the agenda lists "County officials discuss the need for the Law Enforcement Center to be built north of the courthouse," and at 10 a.m., "Reiteration of board's decision made on Feb. 13, 2012 to build a Law Enforcement Center north of the courthouse."

At 10:15 a.m., County Attorney Paul Wood will report on discussions he held with tenants in the Hepp Apartments, a building on the lot slated to be cleared to make way for the new Law Enforcement Center.

Other items on the agenda for Monday's meeting include County Health Director Darcey Hansen on National Public Health Week, set April 2-12, discussion of the budget clerk position and tax certificates and the delinquent tax list.

Prior to the jail discussion, county surveyor Gary Dicenta will address the board regarding a Nebraska Floodplain Development Permit and Application for a Bridge Replacement Project on a bridge a mile north and 41⁄2 miles west of Indianola on Red Willow Creek.
