TRENTON, Nebraska -- Gemisca M. Bruening, 96, formerly of McCook and Hendley, Nebraska, died Monday (March 19, 2012), at El Dorado Manor Assisted Living at Trenton.

She was born March 7, 1916, at Hendley, to Thomas and Zetta(Meyers) Ayars. Both of her parents died when Gemisca was two years old and she was raised by grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

She grew up in Hendley and graduated from Hendley High School in 1933. She spent one year in Chicago following graduation. She returned to Hendley,and married Earl Bruening on Oct. 28, 1936, at O'Neill, Nebraska.

She and her husband operated the general store in Hendley. They moved to McCook in 2000. Her husband died May 2, 2004.

She moved to Willow Ridge Retirement Center after her husband's death. She moved to El Dorado Manor Assisted Living in Trenton in December 2011.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church at Hendley.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Earl, on May 2, 2004.

Survivors include her son, Ronald and wife, Judy Bruening of Omaha, Nebraska; daughters, Julie and husband, Jim Cox of Trenton and Sandy and husband, Keith Miller of Omaha; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday, March 22, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Faith Community Church in Beaver City, Nebraska with the Rev. Clark Bates of First Christian Church of McCook officiating. Burial follows at Hendley Cemetery.

Viewing and visitation will be today from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City, Nebraska, and prior to services Thursday at the church.
