OBERLIN, Kansas -- Patty L. Brown, 86, died Friday (March 9, 2012), at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

She was born May 5, 1925, to Jerome "Shorty" Mannings and Armenia "Babe" Hickman in Oberlin, Kansas.

She graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1943.

She was a bookkeeper for Brown Motor Company. She was a member of the United Church of Oberlin and served on the Oberlin City Council.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Kerry Brown, and brothers, Kenneth and Clarence Manning.

She is survived by her son, Kevin and wife, Carol Brown of Oberlin; daughter, Kelly and husband, Bill Hellyer of Algonquin, Illinois; sister, Jerri and husband, Dennis Vernon of Salina, Kansas and six grandchildren.

Services were today at 10:30 a.m., at the United Church of Oberlin with the Rev. Judi Stricker officiating. Interment will be at the Oberlin Cemetery.

Visitation was today and Sunday,
