ARAPAHOE, Nebraska -- Margaret Ann Whipple, 88, of Arapahoe, died Wednesday (March 7, 2012), at C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center, in Arapahoe.
She was born July 8, 1923, at Lynch, Nebraska to Thomas and Bessie (Hight) Welfl.
She grew up south of Burke, South Dakota and attended school at KLUG country school. On Sept. 30, 1940, she married Karl Whipple at Butte, Nebraska. They moved to Anselmo, Nebraska to farm and ranch with other family members. They also lived at Bassett, Lexington, Merna, Sumner, and Callaway, Nebraska.
In 1951, they moved to Brady, Nebraska, where Margaret worked as an operator for the local telephone company. She also worked for the grocery store as bookkeeper for a few years. In 1972, they opened Karl's Conoco Grocery Store in Brady, which they owned and operated until 1984. She cooked at the Hitch'n Post. In 2003, they moved to Gothenburg, Nebraska.
Her husband Karl passed away in 2005. She moved to Arapahoe in 2007 and later moved into the C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center because of health problems.
She was a member of the Brady Lion's Club, Brady United Methodist Church, and the United Methodist Church in Gothenburg, Nebraska. She received the Aksarben Good Neighbor Award in 1980.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Karl; brother, Eddie Welfl; sister, Helen Meiers; great-grandson, Garrett Bailey.
She is survived by her son, Thomas E. and wife, Jeanne Whipple of Arapahoe; daughters, Janice M. and husband, Marvin Dewey of North Platte, Nebraska; Marlene K. and husband, Ed Myers of Brady; sister, Alice Kortmeyer of California; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 10, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at the Brady United Methodist Church, in Brady, Nebraska with the Rev. Jamie Freeman officiating. Interment will be at the Gaslin Cemetery, at Brady.
Viewing and visitation will be Friday, March 9, 2012, from 10:30 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Wenburg Funeral Home, in Arapahoe and prior to the service at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the Brady Lion's Club, C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center in Arapahoe, or donor's choice.
