Ona E. Edmonds
BENKELMAN, Nebraska--Ona Edmonds, age 98, of Benkelman, passed away Feb. 13, 2012, at the Hester Memorial Home in Benkelman.
Ona was born to parents Homer and Della (Lamb) Beeson on the family farm near Bird City, Kansas on June 23, 1913. She was one of four children.
Ona married husband Harold Edmonds in Bird City. To this union three children were born; Floyd, Jim and Velda.
Ona and her husband owned and operated the Shamrock Hotel in Benkelman for several years. She was a very hard worker but always found time for her family and many friends. In her spare time, Ona enjoyed doing her fancy work for which she won many ribbons at the county fairs. In her later years she traveled from coast to coast with her family, including Mexico and Canada, to visit friends.
Ona was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; two sisters, Myrtle Howell and Vada Leach, and brother, Elmer Beeson, all of Northwest Kansas; and son-in-law, Gene Lambert of McCook, Nebraska.
She is survived by her three children; son, Floyd Edmonds and wife, Carolyn of Broomfield, Colorado, son, Jim Edmonds and wife, Barbara of Colorado Springs, Colorado and daughter, Velda Lambert of McCook; as well as eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren.
Ona will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb.16, 2012, at the Forch Funeral Chapel in Benkelman, with Pastor Paul Folk officiating.
Burial will follow the service in the Benkelman Cemetery, also located in Benkelman.
