Rex Edward Morell died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, at the McCook Community Hospital in McCook at the age of 83.
He was born March 10, 1928, at Sharon Springs, Kansas, the son of the late Edgar and Emma Elizabeth (Hooper) Morell.
Rex grew up at Sharon Springs, Kansas where he graduated from high school in 1946. He enlisted in the United States Army on July 29, 1946, serving during World War II. He received his honorable discharge on Nov. 20, 1947. In 1950, he was recalled in to the Army where he served in Japan.
He continued his education at Denver Universitv for one year and attended McCook Jr. College from 1949 through 1950.
On Sept. 15, 1950, Rex married Avis Anderson in McCook and they have spent their married life in McCook. Rex spent his working life as an over- the- road truck driver until his retirement in 1993.
He was a member of the American Legion and St. Patricks Catholic Church in McCook. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Oma Morell in 1937 and Irene Currigan.
Rex is survived by his wife, Avis Morell of McCook, Nebraska; four daughters, Janet Gardner and husband, Tom of Denver, Colorado, Karen Poindexter of Columbus, Nebraska, Mary Cuellar and husband, Steve of Culbertson, Nebraska, Donna Cuellar and husband Tom, of Denver, Colorado; two sons, Stephen Morell and wife Brenda, of McCook and James Morell of Mars, Pennsylvania; 14 grandchildren, Brian Morell, Emily and Ben Gardner, Elizabeth and Katherine Morell, Garrett Nokes and wife, Laura, Justin Nokes and wife, Ashley, Stephanie Huisman and husband, Larry, Brandon Poindexter, Louis Cuellar, Lauren Powell and husband, Tyler, Jessica Cuellar, Zachary and Jeremy Morell and four great-grandchildren, Trevor and Parker Nokes, Hunter and Lane Huisman. One sister, Ione Brown of Sharon Springs, Kansas, relatives and friends.
Rosary will be 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, at Herrmann Memorial Chapel.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, at St. Patricks Catholic Church in McCook with Father Gary Brethour officiating, Interment will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, at Fort McPherson National Cemetery at, Maxwell, Nebraska. Visitation will be Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Memorials may be given in his name and left at the Herrmann Funeral Home.
