Esther Sinner

McCOOK, Nebraska --Esther (Fahrenbruch) Sinner died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012, at the Hilicrest Nursing Home in McCook, Nebraska at the age of 96.

She was born on the family farm north of Culbertson, Nebraska, on Dec. 8, 1914. Her parents were George J. and Katherine (Trautman) Fahrenbruch. At age three, the family moved to Loveland, Colorado and at age 6 they returned to Culbertson, Nebraska where she graduated from Culbertson High School in 1934.

She married John Sinner on June 30, 1935. They ran Conoco and Phillips 66 filling stations in Culbertson until 1943, when they moved to Hastings, where John worked at the Naval Ammunition Plant. In 1957, they moved to Iowa.

She was an active member of the Methodist church for many years and a member and Past Matron of Eastern Star. She was dearly loved by her many nieces and nephews as well as her great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Esther was a creative talent who enjoyed painting, flower and vegetable gardening and sewing and was for many years, a seamstress specializing in drapery and upholstery. In 1978, she and John returned to Culbertson for their retirement years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John on Jan. 13, 1987, three infant children, and all her siblings. She was the last of the 24 members of her generation in the two families.

Esther is survived by her son and daugher-in-law, Steve and Anne Sinner of Bettendorf, Iowa and one grandchild, Janet Cole of Pleasant Valley, Iowa. Janet and her husband, Mike, have two children, Rachel, 27 and Anthony, 23.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2012, at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Culbertson with Rev. Corey Jenkins officiating, Interment will be in the Culbertson Cemetery at Culbertson, Nebraska. Visitation will be Thursday Jan. 2, 2012 at Herrmann. Funeral Home in McCook from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Memorials may be given in her name and left at the funeral home.
