TRENTON, Nebraska -- Alice Luella Skinner passed away Monday (Jan. 30, 2012), at the El Dorado Manor Home in Trenton, Nebraska at the age of 100.
She was born Aug. 30, 1911, in Hitchcock County, Nebraska, the daughter of the late Frank and Rebecca Jane (McDowell) Miller. Alice grew up in Hitchcock County and graduated from Trenton High School in 1931. On Nov. 22, 1936, Alice married Archie L. Skinner at Trenton, Nebraska. And they spent their married lives in Trenton where Alice was a cook for the Chipman Cafe, Rileys Cafe and the South Side Marina. She was also a midwife, She was a member of the Trenton Congregational UCC in Trenton for over 75 years and a member of the American Legion Auxillary for over 71 years. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Archie, on Jan. 2, 1969, and one son, Frank Skinner, on Aug.2, 2011, and two sisters, Lucy Williams and Mary Madsen.
Alice is survived by one son, Arthur Skinner and his wife, Nita of McCook, one daughter, Luella Bedlan and husband, Dick of Clay Center, Nebraska, daughter-in-law, Gladys Skinner of McCook, five grandchildren; Melodie Reiners, David Skinner, Brady Skinner, Scott Bedlan, Jodi Altmaier and nine great-grandchildren; Josh, Jessica, Adrielle, Ethan, Madison, Dylan, Alexis, April and Derek, relatives and friends. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, at the Trenton Congregational UCC Church with Pastor Jean Miller officiating. Interment will be in the Trenton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 am. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday at Herrmann Funeral Home in Trenton. Memorials may be given in her name and left at the funeral home.
