SUTHERLAND, Nebraska --Justin L. Floyd, age 95, passed away Monday, Jan. 30, 2012, at the Sutherland Care Center in Sutherland, Nebraska.

Justin was born to Justin E. and Nora Belle (Hibbs) Floyd on June 28, 1916, on his grandfather Warren Floyd's homestead near Smithfield in Gosper County and departed on Jan. 30, 2012, in Sutherland, Nebraska. In 1930, the Floyd family moved to Hayes County. He attended School District No. 63 in Concord Township, and the Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis, graduating in 1935. He attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.

Justin volunteered for the draft in January 1940. In March 1941, he was inducted into the Nebraska National Guard. While Justin was in the Army, he met Sarah Trawick in Little Rock. They were married on June 27, 1942, in Los Angeles. Justin served on the Aleutian Islands Campaign as Staff Sergeant with the 2nd Battalion, 134th Infantry. He was stationed on Adak Island from Aug. 27, 1942, until April 1, 1944. He was then stationed at Camp Robinson from May 1944 until he was discharged on Nov. 14, 1945. After he was discharged, he and Sally moved to Hayes County.

Justin was a lifelong farmer/ rancher in Hayes County until his retirement in 1976. During his retirement, he was active helping the Senior Center serve meals on wheels. Justin was a permanent member of American Legion Post 287 in Hayes Center and a life member of VFW Post 6219 in Culbertson.

Justin was preceded in death by his parents, Justin and Nora; wife, Sally; sister, Pauline Floyd and grandson, Tom Floyd.

He is survived by his three sons and families: Roger and Loretta of Hayes Center and their children, Nicole Younger (DeVern), Andrew (Josie), Mike and Steve (Tiffani); Randy and Elaine of Sandia Park, New Mexico and their children, Aaron and Graham; Ray and Marjory of Douglas, Wyoming and their daughter, Dusti Boyer; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given in his name.

Funeral services will be Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, 10 a.m. at Bethal Baptist Church in Hayes Center with Pastor Luke Wolford officiating. Burial will be in the Hayes Center Cemetery.

Visitation will be 1-- 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012, at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home.
