SANTA ANA, California -- Cordell Meredith Svengalis, age 72, formerly of McCook, passed away at Orange (California) Health Care on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012.
He was born on July 31, 1939, in Gary, Indiana to the late Frank Anthony and Alvida Carlson Matheus Svengalis.
He is survived by his partner, Sharon Miles, of Santa Ana; former wives, Judith Norman Svengalis, of Des Moines, Iowa; Jerda Garey, of McCook, Nebraska; daughter, Sarah (Paul) Fraley of Irvine, Calfornia; son, David Svengalis, of Los Angeles; grandson, Mark Fraley; brother, Kendall (Ellen) Svengalis, of North Stonington, Connecticut; cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was a 1963 graduate of Purdue University in West Lafayette. He received his M.A. (1968) and Ed. D (1978) from the University of Iowa. He taught in the Barrington, Illinois and Iowa City Public Schools; Cornell College, Grand View University, was employed as Social Studies Coordinator at the Iowa Dept. of Education, at the Chase County School District in Imperial, and the South West Nebraska Educational Service Unit. He also served as Professor of Education and Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at California Coast University. He was the author of Futures Unlimited: Teaching about Worlds to Come (1979).
He was a member of Common Ground Spiritual Center of Tustin, California and Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity.
A memorial service will held at Common Ground, 14051 Newport Ave., Tustin, California on Jan. 29. His cremains will be interred at Fairhaven Mortuary in Santa Ana at a later date.
