James A. Thompson

McCOOK, Nebraska -- James Albert Thompson died Sunday (Jan. 15, 2012).

He was born July 10, 1925, to Allen and Ethel Thompson in Perry, Nebraska.

He married Phyllis Arlene Coleman on Nov. 27, 1948, in McCook.

He served in the United States Army during World War II.

He was a heavy equipment mechanic and taught diesel mechanics at the North Central Kansas Technical College until his retirement in 1991.

He was a member of of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Phyllis in 1989, and infant twin great grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Lea Patterson and husband, Mel, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Judy Leitner and husband, Laney, of North Platte, Nebraska, Steven Thompson and wife, Peggy of Beloit, Kansas, Janis Pomeroy and husband, Scott, of Denver, Colorado, sister, Arlene Rucker of Hastings, Nebraska, 13 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many friends.

Services were Jan. 20, 2012 at the McDonald Funeral Home in Beloit, Kansas with the Rev. Scott Goltl officiating. Interment with military honors was at the Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.
