BENKELMAN, Nebraska -- Mary Frances Jensen passed away Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, at the Dundy County Hospital in Benkelman, Nebraska at the age of 93.

She was born April 21, 1918, in Audubon Township in Peoria, Illinois. As a child she and her family moved to Haigler, Nebraska where she grew up and received her education. She married Robert N. Turpin at Haigler, Nebraska. He died in 1966.

On Oct. 22, 1951, Mary married William "Bill" Jensen in Wray, Colorado. He preceded her in death in 1979.

She has spent most of her life in Southwest Nebraska where she was a waitress, a cook. and bartender in several places in Benkelman and Stratton where she cooked at theGrandview Center.

Mary loved fishing, jigsaw puzzles, pickles cards and shuffleboard. She especially enjoyed playing pitch with the guys. Her family was her life and she loved to have new babies come and sit on her lap.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Jim Turpin and Bob Turpin; two grandchildren, Mary Jo Scott; her parents and three sisters, Susie Bottonfield, Permilia Workman, Alice Adamson; two brothers, Jack Holt and Russell Hargis; daughter-in-law, Geraldine Turpin and son-in-law, Tony Christopher.

Mary is survived by three daughters, Cora Snyder and husband, Jack of Ames, Nebraska, Linda Sutton and husband, Terry of Columbus, Nebraska, Edith Christopher and friend, Dale Ryba of Columbus, Nebraska and one son, Ben Turpin and wife Kathy of Taylor, Nebraska; 21 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and 20 great-great grandchildren, relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, at the Memorial United Methodist Church in Stratton, Nebraska with Rev. Brian Fong officiating. Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Stratton, Nebraska.

Visitation will be Monday at Herrmann Funeral Home in Trenton from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. .

Memorials may be given in her name and left at the funeral home or the church.

Herrmann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
