County chairman re-elected to 12th term

McCOOK, Nebraska -- Red Willow County's board of commissioners reorganized Monday morning, electing Earl McNutt of McCook to his 12th term as chairman.

Steve Downer of Bartley was reappointed board vice chairman for 2012.

Vesta Dack agreed to an appointment as chairman of the Board of Equalization, a position held last year by Downer. Downer will serve as vice chairman of that board.

McNutt was reappointed chairman of the county's Noxious Weed Control Authority, and Dack was reappointed vice chairman.

McNutt was elected District 1 representative to the board in 1998, and selected by his fellow commissioners in January 2001 to serve his first term as chairman. Downer was elected to the District 2 board position in 2000, and Dack to District 3 in 2010.

Commissioners agreed to these appointments as representatives of the county board:

McNutt: Board of trustees of Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department Inc., Jail Planning Committee, REWARD (grant-writing) board of directors, Fair Board and West Central Nebraska Development District administrative board.

Downer: E-911 Committee, McCook Economic Development Corp., Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D), administrative board of the Red Willow County Regional Economic Development Loan Fund, Region II board of directors and West Central Nebraska Development District Administrative Board (alternate).

Dack: Work Ethic Camp Community Involvement Committee, Hillcrest Nursing Home board of trustees, Veterans Service Committee, County Visitors' Committee, County health board, City/County Cooperation Committee, County Planning/Zoning Commission and Counties Cooperation Committee.

Lloyd Smith of Niobrara Valley Consultants of Valentine was reappointed as county roads superintendent.
