NORTH PLATTTE, Nebraska --Jerel "Jerry" Taul, 63, of North Platte, former long-time Trenton resident, died Dec. 27, 2011 at his home in North Platte.
He was born Jan. 9, 1948, at Stratton, Nebraska to Clarence and Ella (Seybold) Taul. He graduated from the Nebraska School of Agriculture at Curtis in 1967.
In January of 1968, he entered the U.S. Navy where he served in Vietnam. On March 17, 1968, while on leave from basic training, he married Marilyn Vontz at Trenton. He was discharged from the Navy in October 1969, then resided in Trenton on the family farm.
The couple spent nearly their entire life on the farm until 2002, when his health no longer allowed him to farm. The family made their home in North Platte in 2003.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Dena Taul; brother, Donald (Barbara) Taul; three sisters, Margaret (Harold) Baker, Doris (Arthur) Hovey, Anita (Henry, Jr) Sitzmann; mother and father-in-law, Robert (Glady) Vontz; brother-in-law, Donald Cole; and brother-in-law, Bobby Vontz.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Taul of North Platte; son, Scott Taul and his fiancé, Lori Houchen of Crosby, Texas; two daughters, Kristi and Mike O'Neal of Hamburg, Iowa and Kari and Tracy Olson of North Platte; mother-in-law, Joan Vontz of Benkelman; two sisters-in-law, Mary and Dave Bruun of Chatham, Illinois and Madelyn and Rich Kring McKain of McCook; five grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Services will be Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte with Bob Loghry officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Trenton Cemetery at Trenton at 3 p.m. on Thursday.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 2-8 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte, which is in charge of arrangements.
