KEARNEY, Nebraska --Nelda N. Barenberg, 87, of Kearney and formerly of Hastings died Friday, Dec. 23, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Memorial services will be Friday, Dec. 30, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Kearney. Father Mike McDonald will officiate. Burial of Ashes will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Hastings, Nebraska at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Memorials are suggested to Prince of Peace Catholic Church. She was born Jan. 17, 1924, in Wisner, Nebraska to Marion and Leana (Matthes) McRoberts. She graduated from Rock County High School in Bassett, Nebraska in 1941, then attended nurses training at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska.

On Oct. 30, 1944, she married Vincent S. Barenberg in Benkelman, Nebraska. She and her husband farmed in the Benkelman area then in 1953, moved to Litchfield where they also farmed. In 1963 they moved to Hastings, Nebraska and she worked as a Physic Technician Nurse at the Hastings Regional Center. She retired in January of 1999 and then did volunteer work for the Hastings Children's Arc.

She was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Kearney and was a former member of St. Michaels Catholic Church in Hastings where she was also active with the Altar Society. She enjoyed reading, quilting, needlepoint and sewing.

She is survived by her daughter, JoAnn Hoffman of Kearney; son-in-law; Gib Moorhead of Hastings, granddaughter; Becky and husband, Mike Covalt and great-grandchildren, Anna, Drew and Abby of Sidney, Nebraska and grandson; Brian and wife, Jennifer Moorehead and great-grandson William of Platte City, Missouri. She is also survived by a brother, Merlin and wife, Virginia McRoberts of Omaha and brother-in-law; Ralph Turner of Julesburg, Colorado.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, daughter; Jeanette Moorhead in 2011 and her son-in-law; Robert Hoffman in 2011, and three sisters.
