KENESAW, Nebraska -- Matilda "Tillie" Catherine Knecht, 94, of Hastings, Nebraska, died Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011, at Haven Home in Kenesaw.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 19, 2011, at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City, Nebraska, with Father Martin Egging officiating. Burial will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City. No Visitation. Cremation has been held. Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City is in charge of arrangements. Matilda Catherine (Maslonka) Knecht was born on March 2, 1917 in Valley County, Nebraska, to Andrew and Anna (Koziol) Maslonka. She grew up in Ord, Nebraska, and attended school in Ord. On Jan. 1, 1933, she married Harry Knecht in Ord. She lived in Ord until 1942, when she moved to Loup City. From 1947 until 1952, she worked part time for Amelia's dress shop in Loup City and from 1972 until 1986, she was the activities director at Rose Lane Home in Loup City. In 2002, she moved to Hastings.. She was a member of St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City and St. Cecelia's Catholic Church in Hastings. She was also a member of the Loup City Hospital Auxiliary, Loup City Garden Club and Red Cross Bloodmobile Chairman for Loup City.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Mershonne Brown of Hastings, and Roxanne and Dan Hurt of McCook, Nebraska; six grandchildren, Julie Brown Arfmann, Cathy Brown, Peggy Brown, Joshua Hurt, Kelli Watson and Jenny Williams; eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harry; infant daughter; son, Michael; sisters, Maxine Lien, Victoria Baker, Clara Kenfield; brother, Ralph Maslonka and son-in-law, Carl Brown.
