SUTHERLAND, Nebraska -- Jon Leroy Neiman, 93, of Sutherland, formerly of Thedford, Nebraska, died Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011, at the Sutherland Care Center in Sutherland.
Jon was born Nov. 15, 1917, at Haxtun, Colorado, to Elmo L. and Esther Virgie Williams Neiman. He grew up in the Haxtun area and in his teen years the family moved to the Neiman Farm south of Curtis, Nebraska.
On Sept. 11, 1941, Jon married Frances Elaine Kotschwar at Benkelman, Nebraska. They started out on the Neiman homestead and in December 1959 they bought a ranch near Thedford, where they ranched until 2007 when they moved to North Platte. They raised thoroughbred horses and were the largest registered Angus Breeder in Nebraska in 1995. He never really did retire.
Jon was a member of the First United Methodist Church in McCook, Nebraska, the Nebraska Cattleman Association, Registered Angus Association, McCook Masonic Lodge and Shrine Club and the Tehama Shrine Temple.
Jon is survived by his wife, Frances, of Sutherland; two daughters, Cheryl Mardee Neiman, of Thedford, and Carol Jean (Terry) Lewis, of Las Vegas, Nevada; seven grandchildren, Jon Rodney 'Jack' (Kristi) Neiman, Jr., Jamie Michelle Neiman, Troy Jon (Christy) Neiman, Tegwin Mardee Egle, Trampas DuShane (Talli) Klunder, Christopher Lewis and Jacob Alan Lewis; six great-grandchildren, Melissa, Matthew, Michael, Garrett, Aiden and Claire Rose; and other family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmo and Esther; his son, Jon Rodney Neiman; a grandson, Joseph William Neiman; two great-grandchildren, Baby Neiman and Kristin Neiman; two sisters, Marjorie Burtch and Velma May Solomon; and a brother, Doyle Elmo Neiman.
Graveside funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, in the Memorial Park Cemetery at McCook with Masonic Rites by McCook Lodge 135 A.F. & A.M. Visitation will be Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Odean Colonial Chapel At C & Sycamore in North Platte.
