McCOOK, Nebraska --Virginia Ann Scott passed away Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, at Community Hospital in McCook. She was 80 years old.
Virginia was born on June 11, 1931, to Elmer J. and Laura Violet (Wacker) Cook at Culbertson, Nebraska. She graduated from Culbertson High School in 1949 and later McCook Beauty Academy.
On June 27, 1949 she was united in marriage to Dorrence Dwight Scott in McCook. To this union three children were born. They made their home in Wauneta where Virginia was a busy mother and homemaker. She spent countless hours volunteering for many functions and organizations.
She was a member of Hamlet Union Church. She looked forward to her time spent with her coffee ladies, walking and bicycling, riding horses, and embroidering. Virginia had a passion for jewelry and hats, collecting dolls, and carousels. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Elmer and Laura Cook; her husband, Dorrence Scott on Oct. 28, 2003; a sister, Karen Kliewer and infant sister, Barbara Cook.
Survivors include her three children, Vickie and husband, Tim McGinley, of Chester, the Rev. Darwin Scott and wife, Vicki, of McCook and Susan and husband, Dan Kunneman, of Imperial; two sisters, Dorothy and husband, Jim Groen, of Highland Park, Colorado and Karel and husband, Jerry Applebee, of Fort Collins, Colorado; two brothers, LeRoy Cook and wife, Betty, and Ronald Cook and wife, Lila, all of Culbertson; brothers-in-law, Verdon Scott and wife, Denice, of Hayes Center and Ron Scott and wife, Julie, of Greeley, Colorado; 14 grandchildren and their spouses and 17 great-grandchildren with three coming; numerous nieces, nephews, family and a host of friends.
Memorials may be given in her name.
Visitation will be Monday, Oct. 24, 2011, 1-8 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011, 10 a.m. at McCook Christian Church with Pastor Kevin McGraw officiating. Burial will follow in the Trenton Cemetery.
