McCOOK, Nebraska -- June Dyette (Cox) Prestes, age 66, passed away Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011 at her home in McCook.

June was born Jan. 4, 1945 in Sutherland, Nebraska to parents Thomas J. and Lavona M. (Gifford) Cox. She was one of four children. June graduated from Paxton High School in 1963.

On May 22, 1964, June was united in marriage to John "Allen" Prestes at Paxton, Nebraska. To this union three children were born. June and her family located to McCook in 1966.

June worked at TRW, the Spirit Shop and had been employed as a sales associate at Walmart. She was a member of the McCook Eagles Club. She enjoyed gardening, yard work, the flowers she grew and collecting knickknacks. She was also very fond of her grandchildren and faithfully attended their events and programs.

June was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Prestes: her parents, Tom and Lavona Cox; and her brother, Bruce Cox.

Survivors include her son, Jay Prestes and wife, Lorie of McCook; daughters, Tammy and husband, David Downey of Indianola, Nebraska and Brenda and husband, Mark Bishop of Rudy, Arkansas; brother, Paul Cox and wife, Janet of North Platte, Nebraska; sister, Arlene and husband, LaVern Luehrs of Texas; Allen's sister, Linda and husband, Jim Reiter of Dunning, Nebraska; mother-in-law, Edna Prestes of Broken Bow, Nebraska; six grandchildren, Jay Robert Prestes, Jr., Chase, Cody and Cole Downey, and Kayla and Alek Bishop; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011, from 1 to 8 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook. The family will be present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. also at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating.

Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the donor's choice.

The McCook Humane Society will be closed on Thursday.
