NORTH PLATTE, Nebraska -- Keith DeWayne Conner, 89, of North Platte died Thursday (Oct. 13, 2011), at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.

Keith was born on March 12, 1922 at White, Nebraska, between Maywood and Hayes Center, Nebraska, to Wilber Dean "Johnny" and Gertie Adelle Speer Conner. He grew up north of Maywood and went to country school, before graduating from Nebraska School of Agriculture at Curtis, Nebraska in 1941.

Keith entered the U.S. Army on Oct. 24, 1942, and served until Oct. 12, 1945. He returned to the Maywood area to farm. In 1949 Keith moved to North Platte and in 1951 moved to California. While in California he worked for Sears Roebuck Co. for 25 years. He returned to North Platte in 1986.

Keith married Elizabeth Ann Weiland in September 1948 at Denver, Colorado. Keith was a member of P.R. Halligan Post No. 163 American Legion, Noel C. Donegan Post 1504 Veterans of Foreign Wars and B.P.O. Elks #985, all of North Platte.

He is survived by three nieces, Rose and husband, Larry Sines, Nancy and husband, Joe Dack, all of McCook, Nebraska, and Vicky and husband, Ron Myers, of North Platte; several great-nieces and nephews and other family.

He was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth; his second wife, Annetta Conner; his parents; a sister, Betty Schneider and her husband Victor; a nephew, Clifford Schneider.

Graveside funeral service with military honors will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011, at Maywood Cemetery in Maywood, with Pastor Richard Karr officiating.

Visitation will be on Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Odean Colonial Chapel at C and Sycamore in North Platte.

A memorial has been established to V.F.W. Post 1504.
