Virginia L. 'Ginger' Baker

CAMBRIDGE, Nebraska -- Virginia L. "Ginger" Baker, 81, of Cambridge, died Friday (Oct. 7, 2011), at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital.

She was born at home on Aug. 19, 1930 in Palco, Kansas to Roy G. and Irene E. (Gibson) Morton. She attended school at Palco Consolidated School.

On' July 24, 1950 she married Williaim L. Baker and to this union seven children were born: Monica, Chad, Cyndi, Doug, Todd, Sherri and Roseanne. The family lived in Sterling, Colorado, Kimball, Trenton and moved to Cambridge in 1963. She began working at the Cambridge Supermarket in June 7, 1974 working in the deli and the meat departments. She retired in October 2005 after 34 years of working in the grocery business.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Rosanne; grandson, Bryan Minnick; brother, Don; son-in law, Scott Dolan and a niece, Debra Tremblay.

Survivors include three daughters: Monica and husband, Mick Flanmang of Cambridge; Cyndi Dolan of Oberlin, Kansas, and Sherri and husband, Mike Lukas of McCook, Nebraska; three sons: Chad Baker of Wasilia, Arkansas, Doug and wife, Glenda of Anchorage, Arkansas; Todd and wife Marie of McCook; brother, Gerald and wife Isla of Cody, Wyoming; sister, Pat and husband, Rick Tremblay of Colby, Kansas; 14 grand children and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Sherry Sklenar officiating. Interment will be at the Fairview Cemetery of Cambridge.

The casket is closed to the public. Friends may sign the guestbook from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday. Memorials may be left in her name at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge.
