Gerald D. Gilliland

CAMBRIDGE, Nebraska -- Gerald D. Gilliland, 81, died Friday (Sept. 30, 2011), at Cambridge Memorial Hospital.

He was born Sept. 11, 1930, in Frontier County near Stockville, Nebraska, to Roy and Lenna (Hinton) Gilliland. He graduated frorn the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture in 1948.

He married Mildred Johnson and to this union four children were born: Douglas, Duane, Jeannie and Judy.

On Dec. 22, 1973, he married Bessie (Simonson) Dunworth in Culbertson.

He was a carpenter by trade and worked construction though out Southwest Nebraska. The couple lived in Curtis, McCook and North Platte, Nebraska and in Arizona before retiring to Cambridge in 2005.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two children, Jeannie and Duane Gilliland; a brother, Harold; and a sister, Alyce Hicks.

Survivors include his wife, Bess of Cambridge: two children, Doug and wife, Cathy Gilliland of Lincoln and daughter, Judy Havercamp of Lincoln; stepchildren, Deanna and Randy Doyle of Thornton, Colorado, Al and wife, Charlotte Dunworth of Culbertson, and David and Faye Dunworth of Mesa, Arizona; a sister-in-law, Lois Gilliland of Wausau, Wisconsin; 16 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

No services are planned at this time.

Memorials may be left in his name at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge.
