Betty M. Decker

BERTRAND, Nebraska --Betty Maxine Decker, 80 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, at the Bertrand Nursing Home in Bertrand, Nebraska. Betty was born Dec. 24, 1930, at Cambridge, Nebraska, the youngest of ten children born to Frank and Ida (Rheinheimer) Cady. She received her education at McCook, Nebraska, graduating from McCook High School with the class of 1948.
On June 1, 1948, she was united in marriage to John Edward Decker and to this union two children were born: Diana and Robert. The family first made their home in Holbrook, Nebraska. In 1961, they moved to Holdrege, where Betty was employed by J.M. McDonalds for ten years prior to her employment at Becton-Dickinson until her retirement following 20 ˝ years of service to the company. On Oct. 15, 1991, she was preceded in death by her husband, John.
Betty was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, where she was involved with the U.M.W. She was also an active member of the B.P.O. DOES Drove No. 161, served as treasurer of the Becton Dickinson Alumni Association, and also volunteered at the Holdrege Day Camp, Red Cross Blood Mobile, Phelps Memorial Health Center Service League, and the Senior Center.
Betty and John loved to camp, canoe, and go motorcycle riding. Following the passing of John, she loved being involved with her friends, spending time and traveling with her family and enjoying the outdoors.
Besides her parents and husband, John, Betty was preceded in death by three brothers: Jimmy, Bud and Bob Cady; and five sisters: Esther Roberts, Lucille Henry, Ruth Weber, Maurine Rork and Frances Hoerle.
She leaves to mourn her passing her two children: Diana Holscher and her husband, Ken of Ames, Iowa, and Robert Decker of Fort Collins, Colorado; four grandchildren: Asheley McVey and her husband, Paul of Lake St. Louis, Missouri, John Holscher of Clarksville, Tennessee, Jennifer Decker of Fort Collins, and Janelle Decker and her fiancé, Alex Beach of Peterson, West Virginia; five great-grandchildren: Katie and Connor McVey, Trevon and Tayvion Simmons-Adams, and Avalee Decker; one sister, Delma Cady of Guthrie, Oklahoma; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Betty M. Decker will be conducted from the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Monday, Oct.3, 2011, at 10:30 a.m., with Reverend Dale Lambert, officiating. Interment will be held in the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011, from 1 p.m. -- 5 p.m. with the family greeting from 1:30 p.m. -- 4p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in her memory and kindly suggested to the First United Methodist Church or the Senior Center.
