Donald Kay Paulson

CULBERTSON -- Donald Kay Paulson passed away Monday, September 26, 2011, at his home in Culbertson at the age of 76.

Donald was born at Atwood, Kansas, the only child of Carl and Merna E. (Graham) Paulson, on May 26, 1935. He graduated from Hayes Center High School in 1954.

On April 17, 1957, he entered the U.S. Army and served with the FA Radar Crewman. He was honorably discharged on April 16, 1959, and would continue in the Reserves until April 16, 1963.

Don was united in marriage to Karen Lynn Kronberg on Nov. 30, 1968, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McCook. They made their home on the family farm north of Culbertson where they would raise their six children. Don enjoyed the life of farming instilling the trait of hard work and gratification to his children. He also worked for Hayes County Road Department manning a maintainer for 27 years. They moved to Culbertson in 1997 where he was living at the time of his death.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, the Am Vet Veteran's and National Rifle Association. His hobbies included hunting, reading, watching Professional Bull Riding and he was also an avid Husker Fan. His grandchildren were the highlight of his life.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Carl and Merna Paulson.

Survivors include his wife of almost 43 years, Karen Paulson of Culbertson; children, Michelle Paulson of Longmont, Colorado, Lowell Paulson and wife, Tamara, of Papillion, Richard Paulson of Culbertson, Alicia and husband, Waren Sennett, of Lincoln, Joanna Paulson and husband, Scott Rudo, of Omaha and Donna and husband, Patrick Reeves, of Columbus; six grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given in his name.

Mass of Christian burial is 1 p.m., Monday, at St. Patrick Catholic Church with the Rev. Gary Brethour officiating. Burial will follow at the Atwood Fairview Cemetery in Atwood, Kansas.

Visitation will be Sunday, Oct. 2, 4-8:00 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home with a rosary being recited at 7:30 p.m.
